Hard working city and county officials took ; a day off, somo of tho courts stopped grinding, and a bang up crowd of San Francisco fans and fannettes turned out to meet tho 1917 baseball season, blasted open today, and they were rewarded re-warded with a sand hot game of ball. Tho Seals won, 15 to 5. It was the Vernon Tigers who mado the game look so cheesy, for they could not bat. They booted the ball until the Seals cracked and they wero hopelessly outclassed from gong to gong. They came here heralded as man-eating Tigers and they .-"ted like kittens full of hot milk snuggling up to warm bricks. Mayor Rolph took a long time to wind up his first pitch and finally unhooked un-hooked a wild heave. But at that, his control was better than that of Chief Johnson, who started the game for Vernon. Red Oldham had the famed heavy hitters nicely tamed until the gaino was salted away and he just lobbed the ball over the last two rounds trying try-ing to have the affair over with as quickly as possible. Manager George Stovall spanked a hit to right field his first time and drove Pete Daley home with Vernon's first run In the opening round. That looked as if the Tigers would put up a scrap, but as soon as they were on the defensive it was all off. The Seals picked up two runs in tho first innings and scored at least one even in every other inning, except the eights. They were leg weary by that time and anxious to put on the feed bags, so they made no tallies.
