The man alleged to be unwittingly responsible for tho failure to include the Chez amendment before the bill was sent to the house for action Is W. F Dalton. a young attorney and j protege of Senator Olson, who Berved - as senate clerk. No explanation has .'been forthcoming so far from Mr, Dal- ton. Contrary to Senator Olson's opinion, - local lawyers today expressed the f opinion that the failure to include the Chez amendment, which was unani-t unani-t raously adopted as a vital part of the t bill, rendered the whole measure null and void. Word also came today from Salt k Lake today that several taxpayers were ready to take legal action to restrain the Salt Lake treasurer from ' issuing any salary warrant allowing i he heavy increase to Auditor Bock under the authority of the bill and that s thu- the legality of the measure will be tested in the courts. Senator Joseph Chez, author of the ' amendment, was asked today for an i opinion regarding the legality ot the d bill, without his amendment as Blgned y by the governor.
