Adoiph Schinkle. who was out In the Salt Lake uniform for his first real workout this afternoon, showed a lot of stuff and leads to the helief that he will become a valuable acquisition to the pitching staff. Schinkle was given some tuition during the period by Tom Hughes and Skipper Bill. The Freeman has a lot of steam and good curves and in his preliminary work has shown consistent control, e has a few shortcomings, none of them serious, se-rious, and these. Rill thinks, can be eliminated by th proper handling. With weather conditions ideal, the Bernhard crew was out for practice early thlB morning and early in the atiernoon and the boys were given hard work for more than six hours Every man was on the field with the exception of Carpenter, who still is suffering from a sore ankle and who wa.s uncH'i inaii uvuyus i icujiuh I for a few days. In the practice work this afternoon Hoff. Kermayer and Blake were worked on the hill and all members of the crew came In for hard batting practice. If work this early in the season is to be taken as a criterion, the hitting of the team is to be done by Crandall, Tobin, Dubuc, Ryan. Shinn and Hannah. All ot tli. in have been poling the ball consistently and a good deal of the lime against the H best things the veteran heavers of the team have had to offer. Game Today. One exhibition game Is scheduled tor this week. Tomorrow the regular Will go to Sanger for a contest with the Sanger Millwrights. The game Will be of pailleular interest to Skipper Bill and will show him whether or not the batting class shown by the crew in their games of Saturday and Sunday waa a mere spurt or whether it can be relied upon as permanent. Manager Bernhard was unable to say last night whether his bunch will break up tr?ining early nxt week or not. The big fellow stated that all would depend upon the weather in Bait Lake City. He is anxious to grant the wish of the whole crew, which is to get to Salt Lake as soon as possible. The players are loud in their praises of the treatment which has been accorded them here, but they do not hesitate to nay that they would like nothing bet tcr than to spend at least a week in Salt Lake before the season opens. |
