Since Friday nothing except ex-cept brief statements have reached the outside world from Field Marshal Haig's headquarters. ' The Berlin official communication of Sunday characterizes the artillery duel along the Belgian coast and southward to the Nipres-Comlnes canal as "severe." "se-vere." Berlin also indicates that the British troops are keeping the enemy on the alert by stabs at various points from rcconnoitering parties. Meanwhile, the Italians have started start-ed another high offensive against the Austrians on the Isonzo fronL On Ihe Bainslzza plateau height positions have been stormed and taken by General Gen-eral Cadorna's forces .and 1,409 prisoners prison-ers captured. By their new successes the Italians have brought their line almost to the bridgehead of the Chia-povano Chia-povano river near Podlaca Madoni, which also gives them possession of nearly all of the southwestern portion of the plateau. The Austrians, realizing the strategic strateg-ic value of the Italian gain, have delivered deliv-ered extremely heavy counterattacks, but to no purpose.
