Show oo BURGLAR SHOOTS AT YOUNG BOY SALT LAKE, May 25. Detected In the act of rifling a room In tho quarters quar-ters of Captain John H. Hess at Fort Douglas, early last night, a burglar, fired a shot at James Hess, the 16-year-old son of the captain, and the powder burned his coat, but the young man was not hit. In the excitement the burglar made his escape through a window and no trace of him had been found at an early hour this morning. Captain Hess, who is a member of the army dental corps, is away on duty on the Mexican border, but his family is residing in quarters No. 31 at tho fort. With them havo been living Miss Genevieve Hoffman and her mothor, who occupy rooms In the upstairs up-stairs apartment. Shortly after 6 o'clock last night, while the members of the family and the occupants of tho upstairs rooms wero downstairs, a burglar entered the plage. Young Hess stole up to Investigate. As he opened the door and stepped in there was a pistol shot from a man who stood Inside the door. The young man felt the burn of tho powder and thought for the time ho had been hit. Tho burglar ran for the window and disappeared before anyone could follow him. Examination of tho room showed that the burglar had opened a trunk belonging to Mrs. Hoffman and had boon going through it, but nothing of aluc had been taken from the room or trunk. |
