United States marines still are scouring the r. irintry about the large sugar estates In this --(tMin of the island for the bandit Ylnrentito Bvangelista, described as the worst "bad man" still at large in the republic. Evangelista's band is believed to have been scattered by constant con-stant pursuit bv the marines and no crimes that can be laid to his band have been reported for about three weeks Kvangelista is credited with having murdered at least 30 men and as long as he is at large there is considerable con-siderable uneasiness felt, particularly by American sugar planters, most of whom live in remote districts. In their search for bandits, marines under Lieutenant ( olonel Hiram Brass have covered more ihan 2500 miles, rnostlv on foot, and have recovered fully ful-ly 500 rifles and revolvers from Dominicans Do-minicans The search for arms is expected ex-pected to be continued until every weapon in the republic has been turned turn-ed over to the military authorities. It Is said that nearly 75,0u0 rifles and revolvers have been gathered up In all sections.
