Show Chicago Grain Chicago, Aug. 3. Virtual failure of the wheat crop in a large section of Canada was reported here today, and tho market made a corresponding sharp advance. One of the best known experts in trade sent word from Brandon, Manitoba to Oxbow, Saskatchewan, Saska-tchewan, the Canadian crop would yield practically nothing. Black rust, he said, was in every field and the plague was extending to Estevan. Opening prices, which ranged from 14 c off to 1 5-Sl 3-4c up with September Sep-tember at $1.30 38 to $1.32, and December De-cember at $1.35 12 to $1.36 1-8, were followed by substantial gains all around and then something of a reaction. reac-tion. Corn rose with wheat. Assertions that rains in Kansas were not general tended to handicap the bears. After opening 1-4 to l-25-Sc higher, the market scored a further upturn. Crop damage reports from the northeast lifted oats. Commission house buying orders wero more numerous num-erous than has recently been the case. Provisions averaged higher owing to lightness of offerings. There was considerable eastern selling, however, of December lard. Heavy sales to realize profits caused caus-ed a subsequent material setback in wheat. Moosejaw, ' Saskatchewan, denied de-nied that black rust was present there and some other reports from Canada were also more or less reassuring. re-assuring. The wheat close was weak l-2(??5-S to 7-Sc net lower with September Sep-tember $1.29 7-8 and December, $1.33 7-8. Numerous reports that corn was firing, especially in Kansas and central cen-tral Illinois caused further gains, but the market eased off when wheat turned down grade.
