Show COASTING ACCIDENT IN SALT LAKE CITY Salt Lake, Jan. 13 Another coasting coast-ing accident, which may result in a fatality, occurred at 9 o'clock last alght, when a sled loaded with young people ran into John Black, 70 years of age. at South Temple and S streets. Black was thrown violently to the pavement and was rendered unconscious uncon-scious for a time. His most serious injury was in the head, according to Dr. T. B. Beatty, who was summoned to attend him, and it is not Improbable that he may have concussion of the brain. Mr. and Mrs. Black, who live at Beaver. Utah, and who are here visiting visit-ing friends and relatives, had left the home of Mr. and Mrs J. M. Mac-farlane, Mac-farlane, 25 S Street, and were waiting on the corner of South Temple for a car The sled which ran into the aped man wag coming down South Temple street at a high rate of speed The occupants of the sled yelled "Track " and Mr and Mrs. Black stepped to one side. They were too late, however, and a runner of the sled caught Mr. Black's foot, throwing him to the pavement with great force. The sled, which, according to Mrs. Black, was being ridden by three young people, did not overturn, but was righted by the steersman and continued its course down the street Mr. Black was carried tn the Maefar-lane Maefar-lane home, where he received medical attention. Because of his advanced age. It i6 feared that his injuries may-prove may-prove fatal. A report of the accident was telephoned tele-phoned to police headquarters by Mrs J R. Walker, 1205 East South Temple street. Patrolman Henry Calton visited visit-ed the vicinity and made an effort to locate the occupants of the coasting sled. He was unsuccessful, however, having failed to find anyone who could furnish the Information concerning their identity. According to witnesses, the coasting sled was proceeding on the north side of South Temple street, in conformity with rules recently laid down by the city commission designating thoroughfares thorough-fares where the sport may be practiced prac-ticed A number of youngsters were enjoying the sport there last night, but none among them could give Information In-formation concerning the Identity of persons on the sled which struck Mr. Black. |
