Show oo EXTORTION CHARGED AGAINST STOOL PIGEONS Jack Walker and Charies Brown, who were employed as "stool pigeons" by members of the local police po-lice department are now In the city jail, awaiting trial on a probable charge of extortion. Their arrest came as the result of information given giv-en thr police by Susie Jackson, a colored col-ored woman, who was tried yesterday afternoon in the municipal court on the charge of selling liquor without a license. The circumstances In the case, according ac-cording to testimony given yesterdav, are that the defendant was arrested several weeks ago on testimony alleg ed to have been secured by Walker and Brown. In their capacity as "stools " She was released on ball, and a couple of days ago. notified the police department that the two men had approached her with a proposition proposi-tion to not appear against her in court, if she would give them $30 The money, according to the proposition, proposi-tion, was to be placed in an envelope and dropped on the sidewalk at a certain place. The police advised the woman to accept the offer, but to place newspaper newspa-per clippiugs In the envelope instead of money. She carried out the plan and Detectives Robert Chambers and Robert Burk saw Walker ;ind Brown pick up the envelope and they arrested arrest-ed the men a few minutes later.
