Tho official communication communi-cation issued today says: Italian war theatre: Ab oxpected, yesterday afternoon, after an artillery artil-lery preparation of moro than fifty hours, the main forces of the Italian army began generally to storm our positions in the coastal district, the third atttack since tho war began. Bitter Bit-ter fighting is proceeding at the Kern-Tolmino Kern-Tolmino bridgehead, especially at tho edge of tho Doberdo plateau. An attack against the Kern point of support miscarried under heavy losses. A second attack in this region re-gion after a short time was unsuccessful, unsuc-cessful, owing to our fire. The field before our position was covered with Italian corpses. Italian Losses Heavy. The Tolmino bridgehead attacks were chiefly directed against Mrzll-vrh Mrzll-vrh and tho southern part of our defensive de-fensive front All the attacks were cangulnarlly repulsed. The Italian losses were also heavy here. At Monteaan MJchelo strong hostile forces in the afternoon penetrated the covers of our trenches, but everywhere every-where wero repulsed by our counterattacks, counter-attacks, and our former positions are again in our possession. After several sev-eral attacks the Italians also succeeded suc-ceeded in penetrating trenches in a neighboring sector, but none of them returned. Hand-to-Hand Encounters. The southwest plateau llkowise was the scene of a sanguinary struggle There were repeated hand-to-hand encounters en-counters and the losses wore particularly particu-larly heavy. During the previous night the fighting fight-ing on the plateau of Doberdo continued con-tinued with undiminished violence. In the Carinthia, Hochwelszcnsteen, Monte Poralba and Plocken regions and the Subach valley weaker attacks were repulsed. There is continual violent artillery fighting on the Tyro-lean Tyro-lean front On the Dolomites front new Italian attacks broke down against our strong positions. |
