United States Steel rose only a fraction and Canadian Cana-dian Pacific led the railroads with a rise of 1 l-2to 172 1-2. Sugar. New York, Oct. 23. Raw sugar, steady; molasses, 3.62c; centrifugal, 4.39c; refined, steady. The market for futures was quiet with prices lower under scattered liquidation, closing unchanged to six points lower. Sales 600 tons, December, De-cember, 3.12c; March, 2.96c; May, 3.06c; July, 3.13c. Chicago Grain Chicago, Oct. 23. Fresh declines took place in tho wheat market today owing to good weather northwest and the continued big receipts. Strength In Liverpool, however, tended to give values hero a little support. It was denied by a leading British authority that any Important amount of supplies sup-plies was likely to be forthcoming from Russia. Opening prices, which ranged from 1-8 to l-2c lower, with December at 99 5-8c to $1, and May at $1.02 to 1.02 1-8. were followed by a moderate further loss and then something of a reaction. Hopo ot European business lifted corn. Besides tho stock on hand here was expected to show a fair decrease for tho week. After opening unchanged unchang-ed to 1-Sc higher, tho market scored a slight general advance. Oats were steadied by tho firmness of corn. Persistent selling on the part of ono of tho chief elevator companies com-panies had but little effect on prices. UIgher prices oji hogs helped provisions provi-sions upgrade. Buying, though, was small. Tho wheat close was steady, 1 3-4 1 7-2 to 2 3-Sc net lower, with December De-cember at 97 3-4c and May at $1.00 1-2. The corn closo was weak at 1-2 to 1 l-4o net decline.
