Show Society HOME CULTURE CLUB. The Home Culture club, met January Janu-ary 6, at the home of Mrs. Fotherolf for Its regular meeting. The subject a most interesting one to all, being Utah day. Reports from the city federation fed-eration were discussed and approved after which the regular club work was taken up. Response to the roll call included Utah authors. Mrs. Markle opened the program by saying "It is said of Butte, Mont, that the city is surely the queen of the Rocky mountain states and the valley the dimple." Possibly it Is true but Utah might well be called the "Princess" if not the "Queen" of tho Rocky mountains moun-tains and to make her point stronger, Mrs. Markle gave "Where the Sego .L.xiy urows,- a poem well worth any Utah booster's time to read and learn. The sculptors, painters and musicians musi-cians were so well drawn by Mrs. Fitzgerald that as the panorama passed pass-ed before the view of the club, each more easily understood how those early pioneers were able to accomplish accom-plish such marvelous results In the early days. Mrs. Fitzgerald being a native of Utah, knew as a child many of these talented people and her personal per-sonal recollections added greatly to the pleasure of the recital. Ogden's talent was by no means overlooked as Dr. Condon's poems were delightfully given by Mrs. Beau-verd. Beau-verd. She selected some of tho shorter ones that his style and charm might be better understood. His "Summer Idol" a dainty gem, was read. "Twins," a clever treat on the subject and "Life a beautiful lyric that went to the hearts' deepest places were also given. Mrs. Coolldge being detained, the president, Mrs. T. D. Johnson conducted the "Oral Test" In geography and history of Utah, and the members all felt that it would be a good Idea to "brush up" a little on their native or adopted state. The afternoon closed with a poem given by Mrs. Fetherolf "Where Does the West Begin?" which was a most hearty introduction for all new comers. com-ers. The club adjourned to meet January Janu-ary 20, with Mrs. Fitzgerald. |
