Show COACH TEEIZEL HAS RESIGNED Director of Physical Education at Agricultural College to Leave. Logan, Jan. 7. Coach C. T. Teetzel, director of physical education at the Utah Agricultural college, who has coached hero for seven years, has tendered his resignation as coach, according ac-cording to a story current here today. Teetzcl, although he wrote In his resignation to. President John A. Widtsoe that he would discontinue his duties on June 1 of this year, is planning plan-ning to leave here the early part of next week, probably Tuesday. This action comes as a surprise. In commenting on it, Coach Teetzel said: "I am well satsifled with my success suc-cess nt the Utah Agricultural college, and in my own mind I have made good, but I believe that such action by me will be best for the local school, which is now clamoring for championship champion-ship football teams. Out of the material ma-terial at hand I have been unable to turn the trick since 1913, and T wish to concur with the wishes of many students stud-ents and downtown folks who believe that another coach might have better luck " It has been known for a long time that considerable agitation has been going tho round at Logan concerning the obtaining of a now coach to relieve re-lieve Teetzel and 'while it Is evident that his action in resigning is to give leeway to those desiring it. it Is still somewhat of a mystery why he has altered his plans as announced in the letter and is going to quit immediately Acordlng to friends of Teetzel, he wishes to go to California for the avowed intention of seeking a brief rest before resuming activities, and it is also said that while in California he will look over two coaching propositions propo-sitions from strong colleges One of the colleges which is said to be seeking seek-ing his services Is the University of Southern California, which is now without a coach following the resignation resigna-tion of Ralph Glaze for several years In charge of athletics, who was the nrifin fhnf nnf ihn TT S P nti flip rrmn in sportdom. Coach Teetzel would not say tonight whether he had offers or not. but said that he wished to go to California for a few months at least to spend some time in vacation and to look over several sev-eral propositions of concern to him The coach will not take his family with him at present, as two of his children chil-dren are now in the grade school division divi-sion of the Utah Agricultural college, and he wishes to keep them In that Institution In-stitution until the end of the year This vear's football team to the man was highly In favor of retaining Coach Teetzel. The gridiron warriors havo a warm spot In their collective heart for the famous Michigan star who got his start at a halfback position under Coach "Hurry up" Yost. While at Michigan, Teetzel played halfback for three years. In track he set up a conference record in tho quarter-mile which still holds. In both football and track he has been successful here, winning two track championships for his school and always finishing up near the top In football ho has always been ab'o to put up a hard game against any university uni-versity team and frequently sprung surprise after surprise, as for Instance this last season when the university, much touted, was able to beat his inexperienced in-experienced team but 14 to 0. It is not yet known who will be successor suc-cessor to Coach Teetzel. Assistant Coach Ofstie is at the Aggie domicile and has charge of basketball, but it is probable he will not go into chief command com-mand without a thorough tryout. It Is also thought here that Tyrus Y1-dous, Y1-dous, former Aggie athlete, will go Into In-to Coach Teetzel's position as physical director. on |
