Show JAPS SUCCESSFUL AGAINST GERMANS Peking, China. Sept 28 The Japan ese legation announces that Japan troops, after fighting on Saturday and Sunday, occupied a position wltn in seen and a half miles of Tsing Tao. the seat of government of Klao t'how the German leased possession in China A German report, undated but evidently having to do with the snme engagement, says that the Ger mans retired only from their outpost positions, falling back on the first line defenses of the city, n earlier dispatch from Toklo sale that the Japanese had had a succesy ful engagement with the Germans on the outskirts of Tsing Tao. A German dispatch received here from Tslnan capital of Shantung province, which probably came from Tsing Tao in the Kino Chow tcrnton by wireless telegraphy, conforms closely to the report given out at the Japanese legation. The German dis patch relates that tho German out posts, after several encounters with the eremy, retired to the first line of defense beyond the villages of Tsang Kow and LI Tsun. It is apparent that the German lines follow the highlands and are avoiding the lowlands bordering on Klao Chow bay. |
