Show ! DRY FARMING EXPERT! NAMED BY STATE' J. W. PaimarC president of the Utah Dry Farmers' association, has received the appointment of statewide state-wide demonstrator In dry farming, a new position recently created by the Utah Agricultural extension division In response to a demand made by dry farmers and prospective settlers for expert advice on that subject. In other states dry farming has received receiv-ed a decided "black eye" by land boomers who have boomed land unfit for dry farming and sold It to easterners east-erners who did not have the necessary neces-sary information available to judge the value of the purchase President Paxman states that it will he hii Intention to give prompt information by correspondence to anyone In the state desiring to be advised Questions involving technical tech-nical chemical analysis he will refer to the chemists at the college; quea lions of practical nature he will answer an-swer according to his information, which is the result of years of experience ex-perience as a farmer and leader of the farmers' associations of the state His time will further be occupied In conducting field Instructions and demonstrations in dry farming In performing this work, he will visit the large dry farming sections of the state, visiting the farmers on their projects and emphasizing particularly during the fiscal year 1914-15, by demonstrations dem-onstrations and Instruction in the field, principles of moisture ronserva tion by proner tlllncp and c ultlvntlon. He will advlso regarding the proper f rops to grow upon dry farms and the areas of the state In which dry farming is not practicable without present knowledge. At prominent places he will co-operate with the farmers In conducting demonstration plats in order that all may see demonstrated dem-onstrated the power of the particular soil to produce. In doing this work he will draw up agreements with the farmers, who will furnish the land and the necessary neces-sary labor in connection with the work, to follow certain instructions in caring for the fields li will be his object to promote the development of pure and high-yielding seeds for drv farming purposes and to demonstrate the practicability of new crops to dry farming |
