Show Wtt WHEELWRIGHT 1C0UITTE0 IN THE JUVENILE COURT 1 Vern Wheelwright was acquitted this morning lu the juvenile court of the charge of contributing to the de linquenc of a minor. The girl In the case was Fay Buck way : who recently re-cently escaped from the State Industrial Indus-trial school and was recaptured in the company of the Wheelwright boy. The case w-as heard before Judge 0. Gunnell and the jury empanelled empan-elled was composed of B. B Wilson. William Crawford. R. A Norrls and F A. McGuire. Attorney A E. Prar represented th3 defendant and the proserution was in the hands of the county attorney. The testimony of the prosecution was taken yesterday, the witnesses being Fay Buckway and her companion, compan-ion, Pearl Green, and Officers H C Jacobs and William Brown. The two girls outlined the manner of their escape in which they bad been aided aid-ed by several other persons. They also told of their meeting the defendant de-fendant and his companion Walter Monson. and of their actions from that time until the four were ar rested The officers testified concerning con-cerning the circumstances of the arrest ar-rest of the quartette. Following the introduction of this testimony and the cross-examination the attorney for the defense asked for a disml66al of the case on the ground that the Juvenile court did not bave jurisdiction to try it and that the state had not shown that a crime j had been committed. The request was denied by Judge Gunnell and the defense w'as given until this morning morn-ing to prepare Its testimony. The case was taken up at 11 o'clock today and was argued by the attorney for the defense, who did not present any witnesses The case was given over to the Jury about 12 o clock noon and in a few minutes a verdict of not guilty was returned. There is a similar charge pending against Monson. who Is not in the city at the present time. 00 |
