Elizabeth Ewing In Ogden Monday, was early yesterday mornlag made the victim of a practical joke in which the police of this city and the sheriff's office of Ogden were innocent inno-cent participants, Mr. and Mrs Warner had taken rooms for the night at the Moxum hotel. Shortly before 1 o clock yes terday morning Mr. Warner was arrested ar-rested by detectives of the police department de-partment and taken to the city jail, the arrest being made upon a telephone tele-phone order from a man who represented repre-sented himselr to be George W. Leatham. deputy sheriff at Ogden When Warner was taken to police headquarters Sergeant William Key ting telephoned the sheriff's office at Cgden the information that tho man was under arrest and received an order or-der to hold him. Warner was accordingly ac-cordingly held at the city jail until K o'clock yesterday morning, when It was learned he was being made the victim of some person's alleged sense of humor, and he was released by or der of the police captain Sheriff T. A DeVlne said last night that he would not make an arrest until he was sure of the identity of the offender, but that once so assured the person would be arrested on a charge of impersonating an officer. |
