Show MBS. C. H, M'MiN 1 THE AMERICAN WOMAN Mrs C H. McMahan, auditor of the National Federation of Women's I clubs, was the speaker at the meeting meet-ing of the Sunday Night club last night, In the Guild hall. Her subject was. ' What Citizenship Means to the American Woman," and she told of the many avenues of social work for betterment and community activity, which had been opened to her through being a citizen of a state, where woman's suffrage laws had been instituted. Mrs. McMahan has several times ben piesldent of the Utah Federation Federa-tion of Women's clubs and was well fitted to handle the subject. Her lecture was interesting throughout and gave to her hearprs a new conception con-ception of what women could do in a community, if gh en full opportunity She stated that at present, the principal idea being worked upon by the women's clubs was the school I social center. In connection with her discussion of this, the speaker commented very favorably on the work of Superintendent John M. Mills of the Ogden public schools. Another phase of social work which she commented upon was the proper care of the poor of the county, by the county, and with funds raised by taxation for the purpose She stated that the county shouid take steps to obtain a storehouse, in which supcr-fluoup supcr-fluoup produce could be saved and used by the poor people In her concluding remarks. Alts. McMahan told of some of the ques-1 tions which the women's clubs will put before the new legislature, among them being the securing of a dormitory dormi-tory for girls, the suppression of the loan and credit sharp, a better child labor law and better arrangements I for the care of the feeble minded.
