Show THEATERS AT THE ORPHEUM. A tabloid musical comedy of unusual un-usual excellence was presented at the Orpheum theatre last night before be-fore two capacity audiences. It is called "The Wrong Bird," with libretto li-bretto and score by Margaret Whitney, Whit-ney, who also directed the performance perform-ance The cast and chorus are composed mainly of Utah people and it can be said without fear of contradiction that the eight young ladles who form the chorus are the prettiest in face and figure that have yet been seen in a production of the kind at the local playhouse The girls also have the fine voices characteristic of Utah stagpfolk. far superior to those of an ..-astern company in quality and power. pow-er. The principal soloist. Mtss Wanda Lyon possesses a voice and personal charm that might well be envied by some of the stars of larger companies. compa-nies. She also possesses yonth, which is evn more valuable. The songs in which she was featured were all of interest and her singing won a number num-ber of recalls Morse Moon, the principal comedian come-dian and his foil, Mignon Heywood, are thoroughh capable In thHr parts Miss Heywood is a comedienne of more than ordinary ability and has the type of voice that goes well with a character role. Robert Thurston, the other principal, has a fine stase presence and a pleasing baritone voice. His work was also well received re-ceived Louicime Copson plays the violin with good effect in one of the song lumbers and the members of the chorus, who shared honors with tho principals In the ensembles, are Josephine Jose-phine Young, Rhyllls Reld. Virginia Young, Lillian Jones, Camllle Lyon and Emma Chase. The playlet is admirably staged and the costumes are more than pleasing, everythine; of an objectionable nature being entirely eliminated The song features are "Dearie Girl," "Good Morning,' "I'm the Guy That Stuffs the Birds," "Python Bird," "Poor Little Lit-tle Bird," "If I Were in a Flower Garden Blooming for You," and "The Shop Girl's Holiday." On the whole, as to libretto, 3coro. scenic effect, costumes, stage management man-agement and stage direction, the production pro-duction is a compliment to Miss Margaret Mar-garet Whitney and its success is as sured. Last night the feature film "Traffic In Souls" was not shown, owing to a delay in its transmission from the east. The Orpheum management with the assistance of the Whitne , company, made up for it with the Interpolation In-terpolation of two specialties by A Morse Moon, Mis Heywood and Miss Wanda Lyon, and two excellent moving mov-ing picture plays, a comedy and a drama. The "Traffic in Souls" will be shown tonight nnd tomorrow night, in addition to the production of "The Wrong Bird " |
