Show I FALLING OFF IN IMMIGRATION. Our foreign immigration has drop ped to the lowest point in years, due to the war. From January 1 up tc September 1. there were nearly a half million less immigrants than in the corresponding period of 1913, due lo 397,000 fewer arrivals and an in crease of 32,000 in the number ol departures. But since the beginning of the war the inflow has almost stopped. In September and October. 1913, there arrived in this country 421.000 foreigners. for-eigners. The same months this year snow less than 95.000. This drop in immigration is not a source of regret as it helps to protect pro-tect the labor market from the competition com-petition of the European. Years may pass before immigration immigra-tion reaches the large total of the last decade. The war. if long continued, con-tinued, wil make a big hole in the male population and Europe will have plenty of room for its own rollers.
