Show NATIONAL SCHOOL PROPOSED IN HOUSE Washington. Jan. 17 The climax of America's educational structure would be consummated through the establishment estab-lishment in Washington of ' The National Na-tional University of the United fates" in the opinion of representative Foss of Ohio, who has introduced a bill proposing such an institution. An initial appropriation of $500,000 Is asked for the proposed university. The measure provides that the institution in-stitution be supported by government and individual donation8 and its objects ob-jects would be to advance science and the fine arts to train men and women for posts of responsibility in public and private service; to co-operate with the governments scientific bureaus bu-reaus and to work in conjunction with public and private Institutions of learning of the country. The president presi-dent would be empowered to name a board of trustees and they would be authorized to accept gifts and donations dona-tions from any "legitimate source." This, the richest nation of the world," said Mr. Foss in discussing the matter today, ' can well afford to support the university out of the federal treasurv It is time for us to act and realize the dream of Washington Wash-ington and his successors, Adams, Jefferson, Jef-ferson, Madison, Monroe and others The scope of the work of the proposed pro-posed university, according to Mr Foss, would not interfere with anv other institution of higher learning as it could not duplicate such work |
