Cross hooks up with Freddie Welsh, the British light-Weight light-Weight champion, for a twenty-round bout at Vernon on the night of April 28. Cross appears to be in better condition con-dition than upon his last trip to the coast, when he was hurried into Los Angeles match just after having fought a slap-bang affair with the champion, Willie Ritchie In New York. Patsy Clinc, brought along as chief sparring partner, gloved it with Cross for four rounds, and a fast exhibition it was. Cross is training more for speed than anything else, realizing that In Welsh he Is meeting the fastest fast-est lightweight the class has known since the days of James Edward Britt. Cross will leave for the Wheeler Springs mountain resort tomorrow afternoon for a five days' stay. Welsh will begin training this week. The English champion boxed an exhibition ex-hibition bout in San Diego last Friday night. Joe Levy, manager for Joe Rivers, returned from Chicago to'l?,y, ami will be in consultation with Promoter T.
