Show be uric of the CAMPAIGN IN THIS STATE Tho dates of both the Republican and Democratic stato conventions will probably be fixed today. The Republican stato committee meets this afternoon In Salt Lake, at the office of Governor William Spry to dlscusB tho time for holding the Republican Re-publican convention and the date for tho Republican convention will prob-ablv prob-ablv be fixed at this meeting. The Democratic state executive committee meets to call the state convention ol the Democrats. Tho date for this convention will be early in June. The Republicans are somewhat divided di-vided as to the probable time for holding hold-ing their convention. Soma of the leaders of the party hold that a long campaign is inadvisable and that a campaign of six or eight weeks is to be preferred. Others think that the Republicans should follow tho lead taken by the Democrats and get a ticket in the field early. Among other things the Republican state committee will probably also discuss dis-cuss arrangements for naming con gressional committees in each of the two new congressional districts and for holding congressional conventions. Reports will be received as to the strength of the party in each of the counties of the stato and plans laid for strengthening the organization in doubtful sections of the state. The Democratic organization has already al-ready decided on an early convention for the Democratic party and all that remains for the executive committee to do today is to fix the exact dale-for dale-for tho convention and the apportionment apportion-ment of tho delegates. The date will be some time between June 1 and - " ; H .June 15, and the apportionment will probably be one delegate to each sev-enty sev-enty Democratic votes cast in 1912. Under this apportionment the Demo- IH cratic convention will consist of ap- ' H proximately 550 delegates. The executive committee has here- tofore been acting under informal ap- , pointment, but Judge Samuel R. Thur-man, Thur-man, state chairman, will make a . formal appointment today of an ex- j ccutivo committee of twenty-five to serve from now until after the Demo-cratic Demo-cratic state convention. |
