Show oo LONG M0T0RB0AT RACE ISPLANNED San Francisco, April 6. Motor-boats Motor-boats will race over the longest course ever laid out tor craft of their class when they start from New York in 1915 to reach San Francisco by way of tho Panama canal and within $10,000 in prizes, the authorization author-ization of which was announced today by the Panama-Pacific exposition. The start of the race will be arranged so that the finish will be at the exposition ex-position grounds when the motor boat regatta, to be held in October, is in progress. The boats entering the contest must have a minimum length of sixty-five feet on the waterllnc. The United States authorities have been asked to co-operate by detailing two or three destroyers or revenue cutters cut-ters to follow the racers on the Atlantic At-lantic and- Pacific coasts, to lend assistance to any disabled craft and assure security to the contestants. Frank Dennis of Now York, former owner of the motor boat Carol which won the reciprocity race from New York to Halifax two years ago, has signified his intention of building build-ing a boat at a cost of from $35,000 to $45,000 conditional on the guarantee guaran-tee that thero will bo at least two other boats entered. The contest will be under the management man-agement of the American Power Boat association. oo |
