Villers was arrested by City Detective Robert Burk a few days ago and is now being held in the county jail for passing fictitious and valueless checks, in the sum of about $40 The officers state, how ever, that the matter will be straightened straight-ened and that no complaint will be filed. In company with L. Reeve6, Villers came to Ogden a short time ago and. under the partnership name of the Union Sign company, secured a number of contracts in the city for landscape and sign painting. A num ber of days ago It was reported by business firms of the city that they had received checks in favor of the Union Sign company and endorsed by Reeves of that so-called firm, signed by a fictitious company called the Chaney Kellner Ice company, and that they had been rejected by the Commercial National bank, on which institution they were drawn An Investigation was made by the officers and Villers was arrested Reeves has left the city and his whereabouts is not known The part ner under arrest states that, notwithstanding notwith-standing the fact that he knows nothing noth-ing of the transaction which his partner part-ner entered into respecting the checks, he is willing to make good the amount.'
