Honolulu, April 17. As the result of a scries of burglaries, holdups and other lesser offenses, apparently committed com-mitted by members of the Twenty-fifth Twenty-fifth Infantry, colored, Major General Carter stated today that he will Increase In-crease tho provost guard, and, If necessary, nec-essary, confine the entire regiment to barracks. .General Carter ascribes the trouble trou-ble to the action of recruits. His determination de-termination to put an end to the series of petty crimes follows the third escape of Private Herman Lewis, Lew-is, who is facing cumulative sentences senten-ces amounting to SO years on charges of highway robbery. It Is believed lhat Lewis has been able to effect his escape through the connivance of follow soldiers. |
