Show USES NO BALM ON THEIR WOUNDS John Eddy Vincent Scarperi and J F. Cole were implicated In a disturb anee Saturday night which resulted In their arrest, as well as a sore head each for Scarperi and Eddy Colo es leaped without a scratch All faceu i Judge Reeder this morning with a I charge of disturbing the peace Cole I pleaded guilu, but the others said. "Not guilty ' Scarperi and Kddy had yards and yards of bandage tied around their heads and. as tney qaf on the bertch, they carefully pntted their wounds, giving the impression to the audience that they had suffered When a dangerous dan-gerous looking hatchet and a butcher knife were brought in hv the desk sergeant, the crowd was interested. Although every witness claimed to be telling the story correctly, at the conclusion of the trial everyone was still in the dark concerning whal actually ac-tually went on down on Lincoln avenue, aven-ue, between Twenty fourth and Twen ty-third streets. Cole claims that he and his wif---came home from a theater at 10 o'clock Saturday night and they were disturbed by singing and swearing in the apartment next door to them When Cole asked them to cease their noise he was invited out to fight and be struck both men with such force that they dropped to the ground Although the other two told slightly different stories their testimony point ed out that Cole had struck them, but neither could figure out what weapon was used to knock them to the ground Both denied that they were struck with the hatchet or cut v i t li the knife that were brought into ihe court room They ptated that they1 were feeling good because of several glasses of wine. George Eddy and Roy Whetstone, who were In the house with the two men, were unable to throw much light on the situation. In summing up the case Judge Reed er said he believed the four men were engaged in a drunken brawl and had merited the attention they received at the hands of Cole, but he deploreil the fact that Cole had taken the law Into his own hands He found all three guilty of disturbing the peace but suspended sentence on Cole. Erl dy and Scarperi were given their choice of paying $10 or serving ten dayp in the city Jail |
