Show SESSION OF COUNTY MANY COMPLAINT OF DAMAGE TO CROPS assistant to horticulture inspector la Authorized Barlow wilson as deputy sheriff from tuesdays standard the county commissioners held a lengthy session morning and transacted a large amount of routine business among which was the appointing of the two additional delegates to the irrigation congress those appointed this morning were john watson and N C flygare these together with joseph stanford george M hanson and elmer E anderaon And ereon form a delegation from this county insects injurious to the trees and sugar beeta ot the county came in tor considerable discussion R B wilson horticulture inspector appeared before the board and stated that he had devoted his time principally to the district at five points where hs was engaged in eradicating tho san jose scale he also stated that a number 0 complaints had been received from residents 0 the bench relative to the discovery of a now worm that was destroying ying the shade trees in response to these complaints ha had visited the places complained of and sprayed the trees to destroy the pests complaints continued to come in from the beet growers relative to the fly that was playing havoc with the beet plants he said his time was so taken up with his other work that be could not answer all summons the board then authorized the inspector to employ a deputy at a compensation not to exceed per day mainly for the purpose ot circulating among the beet growers the best methods for the destruction st fly commissioner wilson stated that on account of the extreme dry weather the board would not commence the expending of the road tax in the uintah district until the rainy season mr madsen reported that in company with the county surveyor he had visited the taylor district and surveyed in front of the dark property tor the construction of a drain which was to be about one mile in length the surveyor will submit an estimate of the cost at a later meeting of tha board the same commission er reported that the 9 due the county from the ogden northwestern railroad company for the construction of a culvert in front of the william hill property in north ogden had been turned over to the count commissioner stanford stated in connection with the matter of refuse from the sugar factory that had been referred to fish and game warden hoag and himself that they had called upon superintendent flygare and president spencer and that the tact was brought out that two years ago the same matter waa taken up and investigated with the result that the tact was established that there was nothing in tha refuse to kill the flab as was complained it was also brought out that a settling pond had been made from which only the clear water escaped and in which there was nothing that would prove destructive to the fish the committee had no recommendations to make in the letter and stated that they had satisfied the state board in the matter commissioner madsen stated that there was a pest of grasshoppers in tho northwestern part of plain city district which was proving very destructive tive ha asked that a bounty be placed upon them of per bushel after suggestions had been offered that mr madsen be selected to weigh and measure the grasshoppers the matter was referred to him with power to act the bond of lester H froerer as a member of the county board of education for the districts of ogden valley with william burnett and william gould as sureties was accepted and approved county treasurer chambers submitted a statement rendered to the state superintendent of public instruction for the year ending june 30 1905 this statement showed that the receipts were which after the dis bur had been made reduced the amount to the county treasurer also submitted a report showing the disposition to be made of the moneys received from tax sale redemptions ons on account of quit claim deeds issued by the county clerk during the quarter ending june SO 1905 the total amount was from this amount the state gets weber county ogden city ogden city schools north ogden school district school district no 7 1917 school district no 2 1484 petitions were received from T R OC and about 25 members of the lake shore duck Clu band from W L stewart and about 50 others for the extension and opening of the road from the southeast Bouth east corner of the warren district to the public road running directly west from the hot springs the matter was referred to commissioners madsen and wilson for investigation ti and report as to coat sheriff J W bailey submitted the name of barlow B allson sergeant of the city police department as the successor to deputy sheriff belnap who resigned some almo ago the ap to become effective august ast 1st and to carry with it tha salary of per month the same as received by the former deputy the appointment was approved by the board the matter of enforcing the different ordinances of the county passed september last relative to the planting of trees placing of irrigation ditches etc was taken up and discussed at length by the board and the county attorney the matter of removing a number of fences etc where they encroached upon the roads was decided upon and blue prints will ba issued for the guidance of the road in the handling of this and commissioners stanford and madsen vere appointed a committee to take tho first steps toward the enforcement of these ordinances at 1215 the board adjourned for one week |
