Show fatal accident caused by upsetting of a stove pittsburg july 25 two dead two fatally burned and three others seriously injured is the result of an explosion of a gasoline stove early today at the home of leal titus a kosher butcher no 25 wood alley braddock pa 1 the dead are harry titus and mayer titus aged 7 year twins fatally burned sirs sarah titus the mother elsie titus aged 3 years seriously burned leal titus the father goldie titus aged 18 ray titus aged 18 the explosion was caused by the overturning of a gasoline stove on which mrs titus was preparing breakfast the burning fluid was scattered over the room enveloping mrs totua and igniting a five gallon can of oil standing on the rear porch near the door A second explosion followed and in a few moments the entire house was in flames neighbors made strenuous efforts to reach the five children who were asleep on the second nf but as the flames had already spread to the stairway nothing could ba accomplished complis hed until the arrival of the firemen with ladders the father was the first one to scale the ladder and enter the childrens room where smoke waa issuing from the windows feeling his way to tho bed he grasped the twins and carried them to the window ho handed the children to the fireman on the ladder who found that they were both dead having been suffocated the father then went back and rescued the other three children and as he assisted the last one to the window he tell to the floor overcome by smoke he was taken out unconscious by the firemen who also rescued mrs titus attar she had been terribly burned it Is thought her injuries will prove fatal the three year old daughter was so badly burned that her recovery Is doubtful the others although seriously burned will recover the bouse a frame building and its contents were damaged to the extent of 2000 HAVE YELLOW FEVER mobile ala july 24 there Is a ru abor current that two of the crew of the columbia from colon via bocas DPI terro which unloaded fruit last night were taken off the vessel when she arrived inward bound atthe quarantine station thirty miles below mobile the men are reported to have yellow fever the columbia was not allowed to coal here dr hanry goldthwaite health and executive officer of the quarantine board of mobile bay went down there tonight but has not returned it Is reported one of the men died but athla lacks WOMAN SHOT HERSELF left a note exonerating her husband from blame new york july 25 within five minutes from tha time charles marshall a wall street broker left his wife apparently sleeping soundly in bed today the woman wrote her husband a note telling him not to let the world blame him or what was going to happen and shot herself sha was unconscious before marshall could reach hr bedside fram another room A and died in aa short time mrs marshall was formerly miss grace starr and Is highly connected in new york society circles 1 N cause for fsr suicide has been the tragedy occurred in the raleigh a family hotel overlooking i central park at ninety second SECRETARY allson IMPROVED washington ha 25 secretary james allson of the department ot agriculture Is confined to his apartments as the result of an attack ot acute indigestion he was taken ill yesterday but continued at the department part ment throughout the day he is improving rapidly aa expects to return to duty tomorrow COMMITTED SUICIDE new york 25 otto bern helmar a member of bernheimer Bern helmer and walter cotton brokers of this city and reputed to be wealthy committed suicide today b shooting himself in the head in his apartments at the hotel he ifft no explanation of his act |
