public by the board of health in th ariy riy hours of the day there were unofficial reports of a number of new cases however official report was made today of twelve new cases and alx deaths occurring in the preceding twenty four hours of the twelve cases nine are italians only two of the cases are in the upper part of the city the others being in the vicinity of the french market of the deaths one occurred jn the hospital tro up town and the other three in the french market district the health authorities after a study of ibe bood expressed the opinion today that there was still hope of eradicating the disease before fall and in any event with the precautions being taken a serious epidemic was entirely oat of the question As a result of the decision of the state board of health to from rev F E J lloyd of pa who was recently elected coadjutor bishop of oregon stating that be had demanded an investigation by the presiding bishop of charges aref erred in a protest against dr lloyds confirmation fir as coadjutor bishop the protest to which dr lloyd takes exception was one made by several of the local clergy and lay nen and watlo it contained no direct charges against dr lloyd there was an implied charge into his qualifications to hold the office the protest was followed by a counter protest on the part of dr lloyds friends here the counter pro teat resulting in the protest being withdrawn dr lloyd nevertheless withdrew his letter of acceptance which he had sent subsequently to his election and prior to the filing of the protest the portion of the protest to
