Show about sixty delegates attended the county convention the omaha platform reaffirmed free silver demanded delegates to state convention chosen county committee it was before the county convention of the peoples party of weber county was called to order in the new county court house there were perhaps sixty delegates present among whom were noticeable a fair sprinkling of in the absence of county chairman J M zinn the convention was called to order by mr G W dark of the third ward who stated that the first order of business was the election of a temporary chairman S g smith was nominated and elected for that place and mrs H C smith of tho third ward was elected as temporary secretary mr smith upon taking the chair stated he would not occupy the time with speechmaking speech making and suggested the convention at once proceed to business the first business transacted was reading the call after which it was moved and carried that the chair appoint a committee of three on credentials and the following were named C G dahlgreen of ogden nels laferen of hunts hlll and W T buckle ot plain city A committee of five on permanent organization and order of business was then appointed by the chair consisting offo sumner ogden fred foy slaterville Slat erville mrs kate hilliard ogden F G sanford pleasant siew mrs james hogan ogden next a committee on resolutions was appointed as follows H L gaut G W dark A J johnson G F brown G B Doue lasa A recess was then taking tor fifteen minutes while waiting for reports of committees and james mcfarland of west weber occupied the floor and briefly spoke upon the past and present condition of the country reciting sketches from ancient and modern history at this juncture the committee returned to the hall rand the report of the committee on credentials was read and accepted the repart ol 01 the committee on permanent organization and order of business was next adopted S S smith was elected permanent chairman and Mr sKate hlliard permanent secretary is the committee n resolutions then filed a report as we the populists lists of weber county in convention assembled Resolved That we reaffirm the omaha platform in its entirety we demand the free and unlimited coinage of silver at the ratio of 16 tol without the consent of any other nation we demand that the issuance of currency by thena dional banks be abolished and that all currency needed be issued ment we condemn the issuance of bonds we approve the position the populist members of have taken upon all important ing this session of congress we demand a reduction of salaries especially ally the salaries of county officers and that the greatest economy be used in expenditure of public funds and dia the employment 0 unnecessary deputies to do the work that officials are paid for doing the next order of business was the election of twenty six delegates to the state convention and the following were elected mrs james hogan J J olson G F brown R mitchell II 11 L gaut M J hathaway otto lund J F pierce mrs G W dark S S smith L J boeder C Jb hoson mrs kate hilliard wm burfelt Bur nelt chas little woo jno A anderson 0 II 11 burdick mrs H holmes james stewart wm buckle K T rheba F T samuel walker ed dark G 0 barrock alternates G W claib H A green T F Bani W H cowles jno dabb noah warden james gibley geo dawson A county committee was then elected consisting of the following wm burnett leander harris jno ander eon henry holmes MK sharp james john ed parker F M foy samuel walker jas J J olson M J hathaway C G dahlgreen S smith L J beeder the convention conven tio tn mr sumner made quite an effort to have the clause in the resolutions referring to the cutting of official salaries stricken out but his efforts proved futile took a considerable amount of labor to ascertain the manner in which the delegates were to ba choden tee pop trimmers were conspicuous by their scarcity about nine spectator mostly republicans public ans attended the county convention it was just friday evening when young irvin beltzore Belt zere etheel slipped from under him at the lower end of twenty fifth street he was coasting merrily along the track close up to the speed limit when the wheel elid to one side on the slippery asphaltum and bo went gyrating ahead like a ginney stick or tippy cat finally alighting with much agility on the pavement he made swimming motions as be walked over to the aide of the boulevard and was wearing a brand new suit ot fresh mud matched colors that fitted snugly everywhere wheel and rider were uninjured |
