of the co the democratic party of utah in convention assembled reposing its trust in the conerity hon erity intelligence independence pen dence and patriotism of the people standing upon the great essential principles of justice and liberty upon which our institutions are founded while its devotion to these principles as declared from time to time in the part platforms and especially these principles announced by the democrats of utah in the reconvened convention of 1895 now believing that the restoration of the money of the constitution is of paramount importance declares in favor of the immediate restoration of the arse and unlimited coinage of gold and silver at the present legal ratio of 16 to 1 as such coinage existed prior to 1873 regardless of alie action or policy of other nations gold and silver coin to be a full legal tender for all debts public or private and the delegates selected by this convention to the national democratic convention are instructed to vote as a carrying the principles into operation the resolutions provoked very little discussion and were almost unanimously adopted judge A dweber made tho nominating speech for hon david evans mr weber spoke as follows it will be a battle royal at chicago but it is now a certainty that the the dodgers the emissaries of plutocracy to cracy the agents of the money power the sniveling who have selected cleveland as their patron saint and tho cos federated monopolies and trusts will there meet their waterloo despite the trickery the fraud and knavery to which they will resort to representatives of true democracy with free silver as their battle cry the democrats can and will win a victory that will be a blessing to all the children of men to stand upon any other platform would be to invite and deserve defeat I 1 know that the democrats of utah who have fought like heroes with defeat staring them in the face are and will remain loyal to democratic traditions and democratic policies utah will be in line with illinois missouri iowa and kentucky with the great south and the great west utah will be right it matters not whom we select as delegates so they bo able fearless and courageous men and democrats to the back bone such a man is david evans whose name I 1 present applause I 1 know not his choice for president whether it be silver dick bland the pioneer of the silver movement horace boise the grand old man of iowa stevenson the idol of the democracy of illinois blackburn the hero of kentucky or tillman and his pitchfork or some other silver man tried and true but I 1 do know that david evans will never in convention nor out of it vote for any man unless he be a firm and uncompromising advocate of free unlimited and independent coinage ot silver at the ratio of 16 to 1 and I 1 know that in mr evans we would have a representative v ho would truly ably and faithfully represent the gallant democrats of our faff state a delegate who would be a fit companion for a level headed
