Show OPENING OF THE nSJtAIMD The formal opening of the Ashton-Drlggs Ashton-Drlggs branch of the Oregon Short Line will be marked by a rousing celebration, cel-ebration, according to residents of the Teton valley, Bon C. Drlggs. .1. M. Sewell and J. D. Kllpack of Drlggs. Ida., foimlng a committee chosen for the purpose, are In Salt Lake City 'making arrangements to have Utah represented at the celebration. They plan to have a program of fcstlvltlca lasting three days. The celebration probably will be held during the first week In September. The driving of the last spike in the road, the triumphal entry into tho city of the first locomotive, a banquet and a barbecue will be some of tho features. Goornor James II. Hawley of Idaho, wth his staff, will be there, and if thosme in charge have their waj there will bo representatives .from Utah, Including tho Qregon Short Line officials, Governor William Spry and Mormon church authorities. The Teton valley was fjm settled twenty-four yearB ago and now has a population of 3,(500, in addition to about 2,500 living In Jackson's Holo and Swan valley. The completion ot the railroad will open many activities that have hitherto lain dormaut. There are coal beds in tho valley that have supplied the settlers there for years, altough they avo not been used to any extent on account of to Inaccessibility of the miners. The railroad company has bad to overcome some difficult engineering problems, including several expensive brldgca. in order to get the road to rlggs, hut the officials say that the richness of the little valley warrants the expense. |
