By a majority ol ono the regular Republicans of Lay-ton Lay-ton wero able last night to aJopt a resolution indorsing toe Chicago platform plat-form and the Taft administration Tho vole was taken at a meeting called to consldei tho orgauization of a Repub hcan club in Layton, "Walter W. Evans had heen chosen as chairman of the meeting and E. G. King as secrotary A committee on constitution and by-laws had been appointed, ap-pointed, consisting of L S. Heywood, William W Ramsey and Henry Ellis. The question of resolutions was up for discussion and Wilford Wlggill. Walter W Evans and Lawience E. El lison had been appointed a committee on resolutions, when Dr Frederick Clift moved that the resolutions contain con-tain a strong indorsement of Presiden. Taft and tho Chicago platform of tho regular party Then the storm broke. Mr Wlggill demanded to know If he would be bound, to the event of the motion's carrying, to support Taft at the polls. The chairman thought the vote would indicate the policv of the club to bo formed and intimated that it would bo binding on tho members. Mr Wlggill then withdrew from the resolutions committee and his piaco was filled by William Adams. When the voto was called It resulted 10 Tor the motion to indorse and 9 against A number of those present refrained from voting. While the vote was close enough to upset the equanimity of tho regulars, a still furthor uncertainty was injected inject-ed into the proceedings by tho failure to voto of so many of tohose in attendance. at-tendance. The committees appointed were asked to report at a meeting a week later, at which tune officers of the club will be chosen and arrangemeuts made for a vigorous campaign for tho regular ticket this fall. |
