The threat that tho longshoremen handling freight on every railroad pier in tho city will be called out within tho next 24 hours lent a now aspect today to the Soa-raan's Soa-raan's strike situation in Now York. The threat was made in an authorized statemont by James VIdal, vice president presi-dent of tho National Transport Workers' Work-ers' Federation of America. Ho indicated that It was hoped to produce such a halt In the handling of foodstuffs at tho piers that tho steamship steam-ship lines against which tho strike is directed will bo forced to come to torms. H. H. Raymond, vice prcoident of tho Clydo line, one of the lines involved, in-volved, said that so far none of the lines In question has suffered more than a little Inconvenience from the strike. |
