Show O HL I !LliItt& ROOSEVELT MEN ARE ACTIVE Salt Lake. July 19. A number of the Roosevelt supporters gathered last night in the offices of the Utah Bill-posting Bill-posting company in Richards street and held a mooting for the purpose of selecting a provisional coinmitteb to devise a method of electing 125 delegates del-egates from Salt Lake county to the convention at Provo July 27. Last night's gathering could not be described exactly as a "little coterie" of the colonel's followers, for the large office was filled to capacity Alen T. Sanford presided over the meeting as chairman and Harry S. Anderson was secretary It was decided last night that the first big gun would bo fired in the local lo-cal activities of the Roosevelt party on Thursday, July 25, when a mass county convention will be held In this city. The exact place for the convention con-vention has not been decided upon yet, though one of the local theaters will probably be the scene of the first gathering The mass convention will probably select the delegates to Provo The selection of the delegates by primaries presents an obstacle to the new party for the reason that it is not yet established es-tablished It was considered obviously obvious-ly impossible, therefore, to hold primaries pri-maries In the 102 districts of Salt Lake county. A countv committee was appointed last night which will have general charge of the local campaign F. A Sweet was chosen county chairman and J. J Whitaker was named as vice chairman. H S. Anderson was elected elect-ed secretary The representatives In tho wards are as follows First ward, Alma Eldredge and W. A Robertson, Second ward, P J. Don-ohue Don-ohue and Edward Buttorworth, Third ward, Charles T Murphy and Ben V Johnson: Fourth ward, Allon T Sanford San-ford and S W West, Fifth ward, A. II. Parsons and Burl Armstrong The matter of engaging an able speaker from among the Roosevelt followers of the country for the county coun-ty and state conentlons was discussed discuss-ed last night The committee was authorized au-thorized to communicate "ftith several speakers of national reputation with a view to inducing one of them to make the principal speeches at the conventions to be held in this city and in Provo. |
