Show RAILS BEING LAID FOR .. CARJJNE Asido from tho construction of the Huntsville extension In Ogden canyon, can-yon, it is stated by officers of the Ogden Rapid Transit company that tho expenditures on improvements this year in Ogden and vicinity will amount to about $200,000, and all this money, paid out for construction work, will be circulated in Ogden. A number of construction gangs are at work at tho present time and the forces soon will bo augmented. The trackmen are boing used in Ogden canyon at this time making some repairs re-pairs to tho roadbed, but It Is anticipated anti-cipated that they will be through with the work the first of next week, when they will be transferred to tho Twenty-first Btrcot line for track laying there. The grado has been completed and the ties and rails are on tho ground. It was thought that track-laying would begin on Adams avenue, between Twenty-first and Twenty-second streets Monday, but Superintendent J. W. Bailey states that it will be as late as Tuesday and possibly Wednesday of next week before the work will begin. All the grading, including that across avenue intersections, along tho entire route has been completed and the grade stakes have been placed by the surveyors. Mr. Bailey says 'that it will not require much time to lay tho track and have the cars In operation. The cross arms for the trolley wires will be placed on the Utah Light & Railway Rail-way company's poles ln the center of Twenty-first street, which will obUate the necessity of setting trolley trol-ley wire poles. The wire and other material for the line ls at hand. Grading on Adams avenue, from Twenty-second to Twenty-third streets and along Twonty-thlrd to tho eastern terminus of the 'Twenty-third street line, is progressing and that division of the proposed improvements and extensions of the street car system sys-tem will be pushed to rapid completion. comple-tion. Property owners in the districts embraced in the proposed extensions of the city car system we rejoicing over the Improvements, as they feel that much benefit will accrue to them Under the plan of operation, all property between Twentieth and Twenty-eighth streets, east of Adams avenuo, will be within one block or less of the car lines, when tho new roads are built The company haB a crew of men at work on the North Ogden line from tho north city limits and a central point In North Ogden taking up tho old track and placing new ties where needed and substituting a heavier rail The old rails weigh only 30 pounds to the 3-ard. but tho new rail will 'weigh 45 pounds. The heavier rail has become a necessity on this branch of the car line and the weight is In keeping with street car rails In othor oltles. Tho distance over which the new and "heavier rail ls being placed on the roadbed ls three and a half miles, the road virtually vir-tually being an extension of the Washington avenuo line. Aside from the building that the Transit company Is doing in Ogden, extensions are being made in Cache valley north from Logan and it Is planned that eventually the company will build Its car lines in all directions direc-tions In Cache ultimately, no doubt, connecting with tho company's lino through Ogden canyon, coming down from Cache valley by way of Eden and Liberty The exact time for bulldinc Ogden canyon extension to Huntsville cannot can-not be stated, but the officers of the company say that as soon as the water ln Ogden rher roaches a lower level the construction will begin It is expected that tho company will be running cars into HuntsMe beforo tho season ls over |
