Show ATTEHPTSSUIC!DE Despondency resulting from the death of his wife one year ago and the fact that lie was separated from his four smaff children is believed to have led Frank M. Dcnsou, a former for-mer resident of this city, to attempt suicide by swallowing laudanum late yesterday afternoon. He was taken to the Dec hospital and remainod in a serious condition for several hours but is now believed to be out of danger. dan-ger. Theman swallowed the contents of an ounce bottle of the drug while driving in from West Weber In company com-pany with Mrs, G. G. Judkins, his former housekeeper and a friend of tho family. Little could be learned from this woman concerning Den-son's Den-son's effort to take his own life. She claims that the man made no statement state-ment either before or after he took the laudanum "'as to the motive for the attempt on his life. The police were not notified of the case until 9 o'clock last evening when their attention 'was called to by newspaper news-paper representatives. An investigation investiga-tion was made but apparently the officers were entirely satisfied with the explanation offered by Mrs. Judkins. Jud-kins. The woman remained at the bedside of Denson throughout the night. Denson formerly resided In this city but for several months past ho has been employed as an engineer for tho Utah Construction company at Richfield. Rich-field. Idaho. He came to Ogden last Tuesday, accompanied by Mrs. .Judkins. .Jud-kins. On Wednesday they went to Salt Lake, where they visited Den-son's Den-son's four small children, who are In an orphanage there. Yesterday afternoon they drove to West Weber and it was on the return re-turn trip that tho man swallowed the contents of an ounce bottle. Mrs. Judkins believes that the bottle contained con-tained laudanum The couple had been staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Georgo Cunningham, 282 Twenty-seventh street, while in the city. Mrs. Cunningham states that Mrs. Judkins arrived there shortly after 5 o'clock last evening. Denson arrived five minutes later. She noticed that he did not appear to be feeling well but supposed that he was intoxicated. Denson had been seated In a chair but a few minutes when he called for Mr. Cunningham and became unconscious. uncon-scious. A physician was summoned and later the man wds removed to the Dee hospital in tho ambulance The doctor was of the opinion that Denson had taken poison of some kind but Mrs. Judkins did not explain the circumstances at that time She accompanied him to the hospital in the ambulance. It was while she was nt the hospital that the woman was Induced after several attempts by newspaper reporters re-porters to make a statement regarding regard-ing the case. Denson is the father of seven children. chil-dren. In addition to the four small children in the Salt Lake orphanago he has three grown sons, two of whom reside in this city, one being employed as bellboy at a local hotel.
