Show . oo FEND USE Of A DERAILMENT At an Investigation hold January 31 at Evanston, Wyo., to determine tho cause for tho derailment of "Extra 273" which occurred on tho Union Pacific Pa-cific at Baskln, Utah, January 23,the committee reported as follows. "That this derailment was, caused bv a wheel breaking under Short Lino car 2G001 loaded with coal. Cause of whool breaking was principally due to an old crack across tho tread of this wheel and secondly, to excossivo heat due to brakoa sticking, which should have been detected by Conductor R. D. Lynch, Brakcman G II Balrd and W. H. Craynor This wheel was tho inside wheel on south side of the east truck. The wheel was manufactured by the Griffin Wheel company of Denver Den-ver August 12, 1909, and its number was C-130403. |
