Mr. Gideon made a brief speech In which he spoke of the long service of Mr. Browning covering a period of more than ten years, during which he ha3 occupied a difficult position po-sition and from which ho retired with credit and distinction Mr. Brownng has many friends in Ogden as woll as throughout tho country where ho has become w'Cll kuown In police circles. There is many a young man in Ogden who can thank Chief Browning for saving him from the downward path by his sound advice and leniency at the proper mo-merit, mo-merit, and many a heart ache has boon averted by the Innate delicacy with which ho has dealt with many perplexing per-plexing situations. Unliko many retiring from similar positions, no ono can point the flngor of Bcorn at Thomas E. Browning and ask, "Where did h got it," for he got nothing and retires a poorer man than when he took the office ton years ago It has been said that the commissioners commis-sioners Intend to appoint Mr. Browning Brown-ing to a position of groator responsibility respon-sibility than that from which he ls ro-tlring ro-tlring and with hotter pay. Should this be so, Mr Browning ,'I11 enter upon his new duties with the good wishes of a large per cent of Ogden'B citizens It ls seldom that a chief retiros from any position with tho entire loyalty loy-alty of his subordinates, to a man, as does Mr Browning, and it is with real regret and sorrow that the members of the Ogden police force mark tho retirement of thoir chief. |
