Show "THE LION AND THE MOUSE." This well-known play made its appearance ap-pearance at the Ogden theater last night, and succeeded in holding the interest of a fair-sized audience as strongly as over. 'Tho Lion andithe Mouse" might be termed an old theme told well, in that t deals with a battle of wits between a woman with all the wiles of femininity at her command and a strong-willed, domineering man of wealth But underneath It Is the motif which makes the play a truo reflectlqn of "r. national llfo and it Is this quality which has mnde of "The Lion and the Mouse ' one of the moat wldelv known dramas of its da., not only in jhis, but Iiif foreign countries. The play tells tho storv (,f the richest man in the world, a. Man who thiough his Indomitable wlli power and u'oney permits no interference with his plans Laws and courts and newspapers are but creatures of hits 'iii A fetleral Judge renders some decisions not favorable to him and he immedlatelv sets to work to not only ruin him flnanciallj', but to impeach him and drive him Into disgrace. Ho oasily accomplishes the first and Is about to have the judge impeached when a daughter of the latter returns from a trip abroad and learns what has happened and is about to happen. hap-pen. Under an assumed name she Is tak. en into the house of tho rich man to write his life history1 and for the next three acts It Is a battle between the man, who has known no rule except his own, and tho girl who Is trying to BaYe the honor of her father. The woman finally wins and compels the man to bow to her logic and acknowledge ac-knowledge that he is beaten, and that, too, by a woman Shirley Rosa-more, Rosa-more, "the woman," was portrayed by Hedda Laurent acceptably. She Is a woman of acknowledged talent, -but a slight falsetto Jn her voice, which makes some of4 hor linos almost unintelligible mars her otherwise cap- J able work. Robert Blaylock is excellently cat ! 'as John Burkctt Ryder, the rich man A big sonorous voice helps to make effective his portraiture of the financier. finan-cier.
