Three mouths ago "when subscriptions H ' were asked the farmers were too busy to. talk and the committee H y decided to wait until August shall have convinced the people of Hl '' "Weber count3T that the 743 feet of water rights filed on for the Ogdcn river would produce less than 100 feet in August, as was B , foretold by the engineers, the committee and the records of the H past. H i The city and county engineers jointly measured the Ogden H river flow early in August and found 76 second feet of water, half H of which was flowing through the Power company's pipe. One. K week ago the flow was a little under sixty feet. wj From every section of "Weber county comes the news that the H f damage to crops has been great. Jos. A. Taylor, the water com-H' com-H' , missioner, stated that one million dollars would, not pay for the H ! crops dried up by the sun. If that is true and some men well Hj j posted say that the damage was even greater then the loss of Hjn ' , I "Weber country crops would build the reservoir ovory year. H Think of the short-sighted policy of the farmer. Because he H j has a water right in a canal that furnishes flood water in the H J spring, he tries to fool himself that he has enough water for July H , J i and August, and when ihe river runs down to 60 or 70 'feet, he 1 '1 cries that somebody is stealing his water! K " , Tho facts are that Mound Fort canal is the first right on the B river, with 44 feet, and then comes Lynne with 29 feet. That Hl), , ' makes a total of 73 feet. There is not enough water in the Ogdcn H: ! ' i river to supply the full rights of these two ditches and yet we have B ' ' the people of the following canals howling because they don't get H,v enough water. Just look at this: V ! Mound. For 748 feet of water appropriated, there is not enough Avater to supply the first two canals Docs that look like more water is needed for July and August? Is there any other phfee to get it than at the Sputh, Fork? If not, why not built the South Fork Reservoir? "What is the matter with the farmer? He has no, water in July and. August. He loses enough each year to build the reservoir, yet he hesitates to build this reservoir, even when the people of Ogden are willing to furnish half of the money. Up to date thcro has been sub-( sub-( scribed G.040 shares, at 535 ner share, ".vhlch mnkes just exactly $211,010, of which Ogden City and the people of Ogdcn have subscribed .$1S5,G05, and the farmers only $20,005. In other words, the people of Ogden have subscribed sub-scribed five times as much as tho farmers. Yot It should be Just tho re verso. If we can get 51 10,000 more subscribed the reservoir will be a sur-ccss. sur-ccss. Tho farmer should subscribe for all of that, but he wants to see tho wator before he buys It. He may get It after he sees the water, but It will cost him $150 to $175 an acre-shars after the dam is built, while ho can now buy It for $35. One farmer, last Tuesday, said he would have gladly paid $300 for tho use of five acros of water right for July and August of this year. Think of It. That would have been $00 per acre for the use of thowater for one year, yet It will only cost Mm $35 per acre for the permanent water right. The water rental of tho reservoir stock In dry years will bring In moro than the stock costs If there Is np-reaEon np-reaEon whv the farmer hesitates to subscribe for his sharo of the stock we want to knew it at once. Now, the Standard proposes that of the $1 10,000 balance yet to be raised, the people of Ogdon subscribe for .$50,000 additional and that tho farmers farm-ers subscribe for $90,000 more: that will then show the subscription suU-stantlally suU-stantlally as follows: Farmer $1 1G 000 Ogden City 100.000 Ogdon People 131.000 Total necessary to start. ...$350,000 Eery stockholder of the first ?350,-000 ?350,-000 comes In on the ground floor. What rlcht those will havo who come In afterward can only be told bv those who nut un the money for the first $350,000 Thev alone can tell of the future. One thing is sure,, there will be no S35 !acre water rights from the South Fork Reservoir after the first $350,000 has been raised. We print the comDlete list of subscribers sub-scribers to date. If there Is any name not authorized, this paper wants lo know It and we will erase It at once If there are any who subscribed for fun or because they were "forced," let this paper be notified at once anJ we will cut out the name. Everv name here given has subscribed In pood faith anJ can bo forced to pay 10 per cent every 30 days until the full amount Is paid, but we do not want to do that and hence this paper wants every name cut out that has not been placed In the best of good faltr-Thrce faltr-Thrce persons have stated to others that they were forced to alsn the sub scrlpllon list and their names havo been removed Tho' South Fork Prop ositlon is a snrlous proposition and will double or triple the value of tho Investment before the dam Is completed, com-pleted, and nobody Is going to be forced Into tho proposition. This paper, uudor the present management, man-agement, has nvr fooled or deceived the people, and wo cannot afford to deceive our readers now. The publisher pub-lisher has personally Investigated thh matter and he has subscribed for 100 shares, which more than any farmer farm-er has subscribe-. " That shows his faith, and h savs to every farmer, mortgage your land, If necessary, and buv South Fork Pesorvolr stock It will pay the mortgage off tho first year Tho Hon Da- Id Eccles will see tha' you get enough money to buy as mur water right as you may need on your land at G per cent Interest, terms to run from one to ten years at your option. Mr. Eccles Is not loaning money for less than S per cent, hut ho : knows where he can get G per cent monev on wo'l watered land, and he has assured this paper that he will get the G per cent money.
