Show National Temperance Lecturer Addresses Meeting Meet-ing of the Ladies at the Tabernacle Makes Charges Against Kansas City's Former Police Po-lice Chief. A "dry" meeting, conducted under the auspices of the Relief societies of the three stakes, was held at the Tabernacle Tab-ernacle yesterday afternoon and was attended by about four hundred women wom-en of the city. The speakers were Mrs. L. L. Shepherd of Salt Lake, Mrs. J. S. Gordon and John V. Bluth, chairman of the meeting under Instructions In-structions from the president, Mrs. Koulger. -Mrs. Shepherd spoke along general lines on the prohibition question and made her address of especial interest to the mothers and sisters. She also refuted s6me of the statements made by Ex-Mayor David S. Rose of Milwaukee Mil-waukee and asserted that Mr. Rose was not a resident of Milwaukee but lived in a "dry"town In a "dry" county coun-ty In Michigan. The woman orator also took advantage advan-tage of the opportunity to make one or two statements concerning Ex-Chief Ex-Chief of Police Vernal Rose of Kansas City, who spoke In this city Wednesday Wednes-day evening. Mrs, Shepherd claimed that the former Kansas City official had been ousted from office for failure fail-ure to enforce the Kansas "dry" laws. Mrs. Gordon spoke briefly on the stand that women should take In the coining battle of ballots, Imploring every woman voter to register her disapproval dis-approval of the open saloon when she goes to the voting machine next Tuesday. Tues-day. The address made by J. V. Bluth was In regard to the liquor law which now exists In the state of Utah He took up the law section by section, explaining the sections which showed what could be done and what could not he done, under a "dry" or "wet" regime. The Tabernacle meeting was made more entertaining by u number of musical mu-sical selections, these being furnished bv a quintette and a number of soloists. |
