Show CONGRESS SUMMARY. WASHINGTON, Feb. 13. Interest deeper than that which Is ordinarily attached to the sessions of the house and senate attracted a large attendance attend-ance of members and spectators in both branches of congress today, in the house the day was signalized by the opening debates upon the proposed reciprocity tariff agreement with Canada, Can-ada, which after a close and splnted contest became the order of business of the day, supplanting the District of Columbia bill, which according to the calendar was to have been considered. con-sidered. No vote on the agreement was reached, nor was any timo for n vote fixed. In. the senate the attraction wus Senator Ballejy who made a speech in Bupport of Senator Lorlmer of Illinois. When the senate adjourned ad-journed announcement was made that Mr Bailey would continue tomorrow. Senator Curtiss preceded Senator Bal-lev, Bal-lev, speaking against the resolution for the election of senators by direct vote of the people. Both houses will be Insession to-morrow. |
