Show RAILROADS INCREASE FORCES Evidence of the increased activity on railroads is shown by the fact that railroads and machine shops throughout through-out the country are steadily increasing increas-ing their forces, and in many places large numbers of men are being taken tak-en on at one time. On the Delaware and Hudson road 2000 employees have resumed v in the shops, after a six week's layoff. lay-off. The Chicago Burlington and Quin-cy Quin-cy has added 2300 men to its forces and the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul contemplates similar action. The Chicago and Northwestern report that they are very optimistic on the whole situation. About 1600 mechinists have returned re-turned to work in the B and O. shops at Baltimore; 450 for the same company, com-pany, and smaller numbers In the shops at Keyser W. Va. and Glenwood Pa. At Topeka, Kansas, where the Santa Fe railroad has been operating with reduced forces for several months, 100 -employees of the car shops will return to work at once. |
