MARINES FOURTH REGIMENT HAS ORDERS TO REPORT TO ADMIRAL WILLIAMS; WIL-LIAMS; OTHERS TO JOIN Cruisers Lave Canal Zone for Chinese Service Decisive Battle Signs Appear Washington Secretary Wilbur announced an-nounced Thursday that tho transport Chaumont, which has left San Diego wiih 1200 marines, would report to Admiral Williams, commanding the Asiatic fleet, at Shanghai. The transport trans-port will touch at Honolulu, where definite def-inite orders are expected. The westward movement of the reinforcements re-inforcements is interpreted here as precautionary. The Chaumont will place the marines at the disposal of Admiral Williams for assignment wherever they may be needed. Manila One hundred marines arrived ar-rived here from Guam aboard tha transport Gold Star. Another hundred from Cavito will join them and sail for Shanghai aboard the U.S.S. Pecos. Rear Admiral Sumner E. W. Kit-elle, Kit-elle, commandant of the Cavite naval station, in a stirring speech to the arrivals ar-rivals from Guam urged them to uphold up-hold the honor of the marine corps in China. They are commanded by Major Ma-jor J. T. Wilcox. Admiral Williams, who as commander command-er of tho Asiatic fleet has been given discretion in the movement of American Amer-ican naval forces in the orient, informed in-formed the navy department that arrangements ar-rangements had been completed for sending the force to Shanghai cn the naval auxiliary Pecos. The detachment will be made up partly from Marines now at Cavite and partly from the marine command now aboard the naval auxiliary Gold Star, due to arrive at Cavite from Guam. |
