STATE PRESIDENT OF THE SERVICE STAR LEGION PAYS, VISIT TO MILFORD As soon as President Cherry alighted alight-ed from No. 25 train, a feeling of .surprise .sur-prise was. realized. Well this is sonietiiing never expeected, she said, '"Why, Milford is a real live city, not just a small town." After a light lunch at Atkin cafe, Mrs. Chas. Ford accomnanied by Mrs. Ana Grimshaw and Mrs. Atkin, drove her around the city -and surrounding country. A banquet ban-quet was served in the U. P. dining room in her honor. After all the ,;-uests were seated Mrs. C. L. Ford presented her with a letter of welcome wel-come from Mayor Hubbell, also an immense key tied up in national colors, col-ors, Symbolizing the freedom of the city. The banquet was interspersed with a son "America," and at the conclusion of the veritable feast President, Presi-dent, Mrs. Atkin, introduced our visiting vis-iting State President. Mrs. Cherry prefaced her talk by thanking the Mayor for his wonder-:'ul wonder-:'ul feeling of good will in sending r.uch a whole-souled letter. She then paid a high tribute to Milford and her eHizens. especially mentioning the high school and grade school buildings. build-ings. ! The U. P. station, the fine hotels, wonderful homes and the grand and assuring possibilities of the pumping district and last but not least, she spoke of the banquet served, saying, "I have traveled a great deal and attended banquets in Salt Lake but this one given tonight, eclipses them all. This beautiful room, the delicious viands, the perfectly wonderful wonder-ful service, is beyond comparison." Each member inwardly should hurrah for Mr; Pierre. Mrs. Cherry's talk was along the line of Sisterhood, Education, Vigilance, Vigil-ance, relief and remembrance. These being emblematic of the points of the Star': She' admonished the members to become be-come educated in patriotism, so as to 1 isti!l it into their sons and daughters. .A 'so keen a bond of love and friendship friend-ship existing as to vigilance, she warned them all against dangerous propaganda as it was beginning to bo introduced in Salt 'Lake very often for "ir.icrnal vi'ic.ance is the price of safety." The war is not over, visit the hospitals and see the wasted forms there s'lffc big as the result of the war. You:i:v husbands have been stricken after a few years with blindness, deafness and paralysis some say what is the use of Service Star? the war is over. The event was a hngh success socially, educationally and will do much rrood to the Service Star also our ci'v. rel'owing is our objectives object-ives and our methods: 1 Srrvice to God. Country and humanity. 2. To promote nee.ee and Brotherhood Brother-hood among men ami nations. ",. To guard the welfare of soldiers, -e.iicrs and marines who were engaged engag-ed in the World war. and to lend aid and comfort to their families. . 4. To preserve and cherish the memory of the men and women who sacrificed their lives for the liberty of the world. 5. To foster a spirit of sisterhood and democracy among women. . G. To cooperate in all civic and patriotic pa-triotic work. 7. "To protect and preserve American Ameri-can ileads and traditions. Our Methods The Service Star Leg-ion was incorporated in-corporated under the laws of Maryland Mary-land in 1920, and operates through State Divisions and local chapters. Service Star Legion is directed through the five points of the star, l amely: Sisterhood, education, Relief, Re-lief, Remembrance and Vigilance. . Service Star Legion promotes Peace through Education and Vigilance, records history through Remembrance maintains equality through Sisterhood Sister-hood and establishes sympathy and understanding through Relief. Service Star Legion is not auxiliary to any other body and is not dependent depend-ent upon any other organization to define its policy. We lend a helping help-ing hand to all veteran organizations.
