Show FOREST RANGERS NEEDED TO T ILL, GAPS The Civil Service Commission has announced that an examination for the position of forest ranger will be held on or about October 29 at all Forest headquarters in Utah, southern south-ern Idaho, western Wyoming, and eastern and central Nevada. Persons desiring to take this examination may secure blank application forms No. 304 from the Civil Service Commission, Com-mission, Washington, D. C, from Forest Supervisors, or by addressing the District Forester, Ogden, Utah, about September 1st. These should be executed and forwarded to the office, of-fice, of the Civil Service Commission, Washington, D. C, as early as possible possi-ble in order that applicants may receive re-ceive admission cards prior to the date of the examination. . The Civil Service register resulting result-ing from the examination in 1916 is exhausted for the district above named, and the indications are that there will be numerous opportunities for appointment during the next year from the register resulting from this examination. ' In order to qualify for this examination, exam-ination, applicants must be able-bodied, able-bodied, capable of enduring hardships, hard-ships, must not be more than forty years of age nor less than twenty-, twenty-, one, and must be residents of the state in which they take the examination examin-ation in order to be certified' on that state register. If an applicant passes the examination and is a resident of some other state hia name will be placed on a supplemental list and there wjll be no chance for appointment appoint-ment until the state register has been exhausted or residence has been established. es-tablished. Candi- dates must be capable of performing I manual labor in the construction of j cabins, telephone lines, and trails. They must be possessed of at least a common school education ami know the rudiments of surveying, estimating estimat-ing and scaling timber, and be familiar famil-iar with the live stock industry ami the essentials of the laws governing the public domain. . A good fund of common sense, and practical experience experi-ence in field work, am essential. The examination is competitive. 1 Appointees receive the initial pay; of ?1100 par annum and are required to own and maintain the number of horses, ordinarily not less than two.! necessary to carry on their work.
