Show BUSINESS FOLLOWS INDUSTRY WHETHER it is a big industrial corporation cor-poration or a farmers cooperative industry, business of all kinds follows in the wake of payrolls. . For instance, a new business district has just been laid out near the new Los Angees shipbuilding plant, and houses and stores follow. The community that concentrates its energies on securing payrolls and industrial in-dustrial enterprises will outstrip the one that neglects this. Communities need churches, schools, lodges and reformatory re-formatory enterprises like revivals and uplift conventions, but these do not supply payrolls. Seek ye first the kingdom' king-dom' of employment at good wages for men, women and young people and all these other things will be added. Too many communities float in an atmosphere atmos-phere of sentimentalism and wonder why families move away or are unable to pay their grocery bills. They do not realize that it is only through payrolls and transacting business that money is put in circulation where ordinary people peo-ple get it. Those who live on public salaries or by clipping coupons and collecting rents are a very small minority minor-ity that does not spell prosperity. Ninety per cent of the population must live by working in industries or by producing from the soil, the mines or the waters. |
