Show GOVERNMENT ASSUMES CONTROL OF RAILROADS GREAT things are happening. Government Gov-ernment control of the railroads of the United States is a fact .today. Such a step has vbeen discussed for many years. It has been argued pro and con and was at first considered a most radical socialistic move. The necessity ne-cessity of the times has made it merely a natural, sensible step for efficiency. By the co-operation of the various roads under one central control such as the U. S. Government the big job of the transportation lines can be facilitated. Secretary McAdoo will be this central control by special proclamation of President Wilson. It is not improbable that in the future, and not very distant future either, this branch of the Government Gov-ernment service will be placed under the rules of the civil service where efficiency ef-ficiency alone will hold . the railroad jobs. r .. |
